Good Samaritan’s Car Taken, Wrecked
A woman who allowed an acquaintance to stay at her home overnight Wednesday found the next day that he had not only taken her vehicle without permission, but wrecked it as well.
The victim reported to deputies with the Lawrence County Sheriff’s Department that the man had come to her home around 1:30 Wednesday morning, seeking a place to stay.
She said that she had agreed to allow him to stay with her until he could make other arrangements. She told deputies that when she awoke at 6:30, both the man and her vehicle were missing.
The victim said it was not until around 6:00 p.m. that her 2003 Dodge Neon was located. She said that while her son was playing in the back yard he noticed that it was parked behind a neighbor’s barn.
The victim discovered that the car had been wrecked, sustaining major damage to the front end. She estimated damages to total $5,000.
The matter currently remains under investigation by detectives with the department’s Criminal Investigation Division.
